On the battlefield of Kurukshetra, Lord Krishna imparted a profound message to Arjuna, known as the Bhagavad Gita, Bhagwad Geeta, or Srimad Bhagavad Gita - the celestial song. The 700 verses spoken by Lord Krishna are regarded as the essence of Hinduism, reflecting the wisdom of the Upanishads. Contained within the epic Mahabharata, the Bhagavad Gita is found in the Bhishma Parva, chapters 23-40.
The delivery of the Gita did not take place on the banks of the Ganges, inside caves, monasteries, or at the beginning of any hermitage but unfolded on the battlefield teeming with belligerent armies awaiting a fierce encounter. Encountering revered teachers, beloved friends, and close relatives among his enemies, Arjuna was overwhelmed by grief and despair. Subsequently laying down his arms, he sought guidance from his charioteer and friend, Krishna. In his unique and captivating manner, Krishna addressed Arjuna's myriad questions spanning sins, slander, siblings, duty, desire, duality, and divinity. Arjuna came to understand that death on the battlefield only meant the demise of his physical form and not his immortal soul. The dialogue between Krishna and Arjuna shed light on various significant aspects of Hinduism such as life and death, karma, devotion, jnana, yoga, supreme reality, and duality.
Being the sole available Gujarati translation of the Bhagavad Gita, this esteemed poem is now accessible through this application for the first time.
